Exceptionally well acted by James Franco. Beautifully layered storyline. Its storytelling is right on par with the story itself. Really modest in its presentation, but grand in its effect. Robert Naylor also deserves credit for some fine acting. I hope this piece of art won't be underrated, because the story really is just a plain portrait of life, without any fuss. It struck me, with all its characters in it. Please take note of James Franco reading his letter from teenager Christopher so beautifully human. And the score is beautiful! Its cinematography is well crafted, there to deliver. I can't see why people would think this is a pretentious presentation of camera styles.

It's what we crave, knowing they wait for us. But Jack isn't waiting - they won't leave him alone. Some might call Jack a troubled soul, at odds with the world, unable to conform. If you saw him in the pub - disheveled and drunk, talking to himself - you'd stay well away, think he was disturbed somehow, crazy. But Jack has a sharp mind and a razor wit. It's not that he doesn't want to live a normal life, he can't. They won't let him.

The Messenger is a strange one, it may disappoint audience who want horror or thriller flick since this is exclusively a psychological drama. The entirety of the movie revolves around Jack, a psychic, as he tries to live his daily life being haunted by spirits of the dead. While the concept is not novel and the ride can be exhausting, it does present a few good perspectives on the mental agony he must go through.
There's a lot of wandering involved as Jack (Robert Sheehan) either runs away from his plague or searching for odd ways to find peace, both of which usually end up poorly. The cinematography works well to set the mood, often using dark palette almost like a cloud hovering around the main character. It gives plenty of fine landscape or urban shots, although these might get old towards latter half.
Robert Sheehan is good on the lead character, he may not warm up quickly since his depression can be discouraging. Often misunderstood, his good will doesn't always reward him with accolade, after all people hearing voices and talking randomly is utterly bizarre. His character can be sympathetic yet it's the nagging feeling that he's not all there which gives depth to his performance.
The movie cleverly portrays him as a man with supernatural gift or simply a mental trouble. Other characters such as his sister or the psychiatrist enhance the relationship even more by showcasing Jack's gradually deteriorating life. This is certainly not a movie that relies on scare or shock, it's a long psychological trudge, The problem with this set-up is the arduous atmosphere surrounding Jack. There's barely any five minutes where he's not yelling or nearly breaking down. This can get tiresome, the constant conflict can produce drama, and it does for a couple of instances, but it's also very heavy and might just deter some audience.
While the drama aspect can be peculiarly engaging at times, The Messenger's overly solemn tone might not relate well to viewer expecting more thrill or excitement.

If you're watching this for Adam Sandler then you already know what to expect and you won't be disappointed. It's not gonna change anyone's perception of Adam Sandler whether you're for or against. If you're watching for the Arcade Game nostalgia then there will be something there to entertain you but you may leave disappointed with some aspects. It is also surprising how hard it is to accept some characters in this film considering the premise and all but I just couldn't believe Kevin James character at all. That must say something considering I'm more willing to accept the Arcade Game Invasion this movie is about over his character and his portrayal of said character. Oh well, you don't watch Adam Sandler movies for the great acting anyway. Overall, for the hour and a half it was on, it entertained; though you won't get much replay value from it as I can see the jokes getting old fast. Not awful and not great... an Adam Sandler movie.

The Scorch Trials is the sequel to last years pleasant surprise 'The Maze Runner' and the big question was whether the last film was just a fluke or whether there is actually some interesting stories to be told in this world. And i have to say that the first film was not a fluke as this movie lives up to what the first first film set it up to be. There was more action, more thrills, different tones, and it was a more fast paced film than the first. The movie kicks off literally right where the first film cut to black so it felt good to just get on with the story as oppose to stopping to catch us up on what has happened since the last one ended. Unfortunately though, you don't really learn a whole lot more about the overarching story in this film, whatever questions you had after the first film don't really get answered, they only give you a whole lot more questions to think about while you wait for the final instalment. The elements of mystery are still there, although they aren't the main driver of the film like in the first, they are pushed aside for a more action packed sequel which really worked.
The fast paced action sequences were in full force for this entire film, the film kept on moving from place to place offering a range of different exciting and fun action scenes where you always felt that the stakes were high. There were some intense gun battles that were chaotic and then you have some different action scenes that were a lot darker than the rest of the film. They were very horror like themes that got pretty freaky at times and i was pleasantly surprised by how dark it got more than once. This variety is what kept me engaged in the film. The film does slow down on occasion to introduce some new characters, sorry, i mean a lot of new characters. Every 20-30 minutes you hear of this new objective that ultimately leads to more and more new characters, i understand that they are trying to build this world but they crammed so much into this film.
Driving this film were the characters, some of which you can remember from the last film and the actors again put in strong convincing performances. Even many of the new supporting cast were interesting and you really get to know them and get behind them, or really really hate them. Giancarlo Esposito and Aidan Gillen were great additions to the film and brought in some very interesting characters that play big parts in the film. One other minor thing i have to mention is the inability for the film-makers to end a Maze Runner movie well. Like the first film this one felt like it was going to end like 3-4 times before it actually decided to end and even when it did end it was very abrupt. Some people may like this but it makes the films feel like one long continuous story that has been broken up into three parts and released separately, i would rather three individual stories that all link but that's just me, not really an issue.
In the end, this was a well made sequel that proved this series isn't just a crappy version of The Hunger Games. It was more fast paced and action packed and offered a lot more variety of different themes than the first film and may just sneak past it in terms of which is better.

Storyline

Don't really want to say too much about this since I feel that the best way to enjoy this film is to go in knowing as little as possible. That's what I did and I was thoroughly entertained until the credits rolled.
This isn't an action packed gore fest, instead it is a well crafted thriller that does a good job of getting you attached to the characters. The slow build up helps to make the characters feel real, that and the excellent acting by the small cast.
Some may be deterred by the slow pace but I felt the slow pace just made the finale that more thrilling and emotional. The screenwriters thought outside of the box for this one and it was really refreshing to see something new.

Critically acclaimed indie comedy-drama flick; about an awkward high school teen, and his young filmmaking buddy, who befriend a sick classmate with leukemia. The film stars Thomas Mann, Olivia Cooke, Ronald Cyler II, Nick Offerman, Connie Britton, Molly Shannon, Katherine C. Hughes and Jon Bernthal. It was directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (who's most well known for directing popular TV shows, like 'GLEE' and 'AMERICAN HORROR STORY') and it was written by first time feature film writer Jesse Andrews (and based on his book, of the same name). I absolutely love this movie!
Greg Gaines (Mann) is a senior at Schenley High School, in Pittsburgh, who's made it through school mostly unnoticed, by only slightly communicating (politely) with everyone (in every social group). He makes short film spoofs, with his best friend Earl (Cyler II); who he's known since childhood. One day, Greg's mother (Britton) informs him that another childhood friend, Rachel (Cooke), has been diagnosed with leukemia. He's then forced, by his mom, to spend time with his sick classmate; against both their wishes. A touching friendship forms.
The film is quirky and hilarious, in places. The actors are all perfectly cast and the characters are all lovable, and memorable. It's also a very touching film, and quite depressing (at times); but it's always beautiful to watch, and wonderfully moving. The cinematography is gorgeous and the score is perfectly fitting. The script is brilliant, and clever as well, and the director is definitely one to watch out for. It's sure to become a cult classic, for many years to come, and who wouldn't love that title?!

So many holes in the story. This movie tries so hard to be suspenseful and just fails completely falls flat. Please save yourself some time and don't watch it you will be happy. I thought that with the actors in this movie it would be a decent show... I was so very wrong. Wish I could get back the time I wasted watching this show. Tell your friends to not waste their time. They will thank you. Just does not make sense how things this movie tries to portray could happen. This is not a good story at all. So very flawed. You can see from the other reviews that it is just a waste of a movie and time. I really hope these actors chose a better movie to be in for their next project... wow just bad all the way around.

Challenged by the harshest conditions imaginable, the teams must endure blistering winds and freezing temperatures in an epic battle to survive against nearly impossible odds.

"I want to see Everest". Could you be a bit more specific? Assuming that you're not talking about making a trip to Nepal, there are still many ways to interpret your request besides seeing the 2015 docudrama. The world's tallest mountain is the center of the story in a 1998 documentary, a 2007 TV mini-series, a 2014-2015 TV series and another film project still in development. All of these treatments are simply titled, "Everest". More to the point, 2015's "Everest" (PG-13, 2:01) re-tells the specific story from the '98 doc and a 1997 TV movie ("Into Thin Air: Death on Everest"), but tells it more vividly than ever before.
The '97, '98 and 2015 films all take us along for doomed expeditions up the tallest peak in the Himalayas in May 1996, as told in at least five books by survivors, most famously in journalist Jon Krakauer's 1997 best-seller "Into Thin Air", which is the primary basis for the screenplay of 2015's "Everest". As the film tells us early on, by the late 1980s, climbing Everest had transitioned from the domain of adventurers like George Mallory and Edmund Hillary with minimal equipment to a tourist destination for thrill-seekers with little climbing experience, but enough money to buy state-of-the-art equipment, stay in established base camps, and hire local Sherpas as guides and, in some cases, to carry the climber's gear and cook meals. But as the films about the 1996 climbs (and subsequent major avalanches) have shown, no amount of money, gear, help or even experience can insulate anyone from the dangers inherent in this climb. "The last word," as one character in the 2015 film says, "always belongs to the mountain." "Everest" follows two of the expeditions which suffered tragic losses on the mountain on May 10-11, 1996. Rival expedition leaders Rob Hall (Jason Clarke), of the company Adventure Consultants, and Scott Fischer (Jake Gyllenhaal), of Mountain Madness, decide to work together due to the large number of people trying to reach the peak on May 10th. The main focus of the story is Hall's team, which includes people with a wide range of personal backgrounds. Hall is an experienced New Zealand mountaineer who has already climbed to the top of Everest four times, including once with his wife, Jan (Keira Knightley), who has stayed in New Zealand this time due to her pregnancy. Doug Hansen (John Hawkes) is a mailman who attempted Everest once before and wants to reach the summit as a way of inspiring schoolchildren back home in Washington state. Yasuko Namba is a 47-year-old Japanese woman who has already climbed the other six of the famed Seven Summits and wants to become the oldest woman to reach the top of Everest. Beck Weathers (Josh Brolin) is an adventurous Texan who is also pursuing the goal of the Seven Summits, but has lied to his wife, Peach (Robin Wright), about his current trip to Everest. Jon Krakauer is a writer for "Outside" magazine, but has never been on a climb above 8000m. Several of the people portrayed in this film died on Everest and others barely escaped with their lives.
"Everest" is much more than a high-altitude adventure movie or disaster flick. Besides learning about the personal backgrounds of the characters, we follow them on their entire adventure, from beginning to end, learning a good bit about mountain climbing along the way. One of the first things we learn is that, to these people, summit is a verb. Hall lays out the dangers of summiting Everest in his briefing to his team before they even set foot on the mountain. "Human beings are not designed to function at the cruising altitude of a 747. Your bodies will be literally dying," he says. This group understands all that, but they've put their trust in the honest, personable and level-headed Hall. And they've paid him a lot of money ($65,000 each) to get them to the top of Everest � and safely back down. At base camp, Hall and his friend and colleague, Helen Wilton (Emily Watson), and their fellow Adventure Consultants employees, teach, coach and take care of their customers, including Hall taking them on some practice climbs. In spite of the danger and discomfort that everyone experiences even going only partially up the mountain, they're all looking forward to the real thing. They know they'll be cold, exhausted and scared, while having trouble breathing and facing the unpredictability of the mountain, but they didn't come this far to quit. Their experiences turn out much worse than anything any of them could have imagined.
"Everest" is a fascinating and gripping adventure. Like other movies about mountain climbing, this one fails to give a satisfactory reason for why these people risk their lives for little more than a great view and bragging rights, but it's clear that there are a variety of justifications within the group. The script depicts this climb as an extremely risky venture, but allows us to marvel at the courage, determination and, in some cases, self-sacrifice of these people. The character development (thanks to a great script and a terrific cast) is outstanding and the cinematography is as impressive as you'd expect (especially in IMAX 3-D). The suffering of the climbers (even when things are going according to plan), the thrilling moments (when circumstances throw the plan into chaos), the heartbreak and the small victories along the way all make us feel like we're right there on that mountain. The hardships and the tragedies of this expedition are sometimes shot and edited oddly, but are never exploitive. Icelandic director Baltasar Korm�kur brings us an engaging, eye-opening and beautiful film that most are likely to appreciate. "A-"

I wound up liking this a lot more than I thought I would. For the first 20 minutes or so I felt it dragged but then picked up. Overall I thought the acting was excellent, especially Ethan Hawke who played his somewhat complex character splendidly. What I really liked was that most of the characters stepped outside of stereotypical bounds. Hawke's character was a stoner, but in some ways level-headed and responsible. Johnny, the punk singer and tattoo artist, was trying to stay straight and walk the spiritual path and succeeded reasonably well. I read other comments which complained that "nothing happened" in the film. This is not an action film; it's a relationship movie, and given that, I believe it worked well. Plus, the characters all showed some degree of evolution. The scenery, with 1980's East Village was done really well too, very realistic, Twin Towers and all.

In Some Kind of Hate, a bullied kid fights back and as a result he gets sent to some weird alternative school where he continues to get bullied. After wishing death upon the bullies he inadvertently reincarnates the flesh and blood ghost of a girl who herself was bullied years ago at the same alternative school where she supposedly committed suicide. Her name is Moira and she's the Freddy Krugar / Jason / Michael Myers character in this supernatural slasher film, sporting a necklaces of razor blades and capable of injuring others by injuring herself. Yeah, that's right, if she cuts her own wrist the person she hates gets cut as well, and if she breaks her own finger guess what, and if you try to shoot her in the head watch out because you're shooting yourself in the head as well. Pretty novel idea and orchestrated pretty well considering the obvious budget restraints the film had. It started out a little slow and I had my doubts but at the end I was thoroughly entertained and felt like I had witnessed the birth of a new iconic horror legend.

Storyline
Incoming NYU freshmen and childhood neighbors Naomi and Ely have been in love with each other their whole lives, even though Ely isn't exactly into girls. The institution of a "No Kiss List" has prevented the two from rifts in the past, but their bond is tested when they both fall for the same guy. The once inseparable pair must figure out if their friendship is strong enough to get past such an epic predicament as they struggle with the realities of growing up. Victoria Justice and Pierson Fode star in Naomi + Ely's No Kiss List, based on the novel of the same name by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan (Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist). The film is directed by Kristin Hanggi (Broadway's Rock of Ages) from an adaptation written by Amy Andelson and Emily Meyer (Step Up 3D). The film is produced by Alexandra Milchan (The Wolf of Wall Street), Lesley Vogel, Emily Gerson Saines ("Temple Grandlin"), Hanggi and Bob Abramoff (Detention) and executive produced by Skip Klintworth.

I watched this movie with my family because my daughter is a big Victoria Justice fan. I thought I was going to have suffer through another mediocre high school themed movie but was pleasantly surprised. My 18 year old son and my husband were both emotional at the end. It teaches some really good life lessons and I highly recommend for kids 13 years of age and older. Having lived in NYC at different times in my life, it was wonderful to see the familiar landmarks throughout the film. Both my teenagers loved the movie and as I mentioned my husband was moved as well. I think this movie is a great conversation starter with teen aged kids!

After their teenage son is killed in a car crash, Paul (Andrew Sensenig) and Anne (Barbara Crampton) move to the quiet New York countryside to try to start a new life for themselves. But the grieving couple unknowingly becomes the prey of a family of vengeful spirits that reside in their new home, and before long they discover that the seemingly peaceful town they've moved into is hiding a terrifyingly dark secret. The plot is solid enough. The movie is entertaining enough also meaning that if you want something new to watch in the horror genre- this movie is just entertaining enough, The lore could have been improved upon, and with some more back story, perhaps even some flashbacks with some creative storytelling and this film could have been a gem.
The movie at just 84 minutes doesn't provide enough time to the viewer to understand what this evil is that has descended on this family. We are told a few bits a pieces about he first owner who ran a funeral parlour out of this home. Something about the owner Dagmar hiding or selling the bodies and that the house was built on some ancient evil. Other than all that we are left to guess at what the heck the rest of the back story is and what it has to do with the old boiler downstairs.
If only they took another 15 minutes of screen time to flesh out the sordid past and we could have left this movie more satisfied with a true understanding of the houses evil past, where and why and how.
What we are left with is a gore fest with jump scares that are really nothing new. It's just a good old fashioned horror with a 2 star rating.

Storyline
After trying to connect with her dead mother, teenager Quinn Brenner, ask physic Elise Rainier to help her, she refuses due to negotiate events in her childhood. Quinn starts noticing paranormal events happen in her house. After a vicious attack from a demon her father goes back and begs Elise Rainier to use her abilities to contact the other side in hope to stop these attacks by this furious demon content for a body.

The "Insidious" franchise has gone through some lengths to rejuvenate old-fashioned spook. The first movie was a surprise hit, giving the audience back their interests in horror movies to come. The second one worked sporadically with critics but still kept audiences wanting for more. And now, here comes another sequel (I meant prequel). Will it pay off? Maybe.
Quinn Renner (Scott) is a young woman seeking a clairvoyant to contact her deceased mother. She calls up to Elise Rainer (Shaye), who informs her that she may have been contacted with an evil spirit who will take her soul. Slowly, Quinn starts to have scary occurrences. And it's up to Elise if she can help her or not.
From the first scene, I can sense something different this movie will be heading. Even though there's jump scares aplenty, most of them doesn't pack a punch like its' previous movies. But, Whannell has a way to orchestrate frightening and rich atmosphere, that almost cover all the flaws.
Back to that something different, it is the emotional undercurrent that stood out, talking about grief and coping from it, while limited. It is something the first two didn't really tell.
The actors and actresses has done a great job. But, the real thing is Lin Shaye. She is a revelation. Her range as an actress can be seen solely from this movie. She makes you root for her, care for her, even laugh with her. When the movie starts to fumble, she holds it from falling apart, avoiding clich�s and conventionality. A plus one for that than just being a good film.
If you're looking for the same intensity from the first two, you'll most likely will be disappointed. But, if you're looking for not just the scares, you'll get something more than most horror movies.

I'm not sure what is with other people, but I thought this movie was very good. Maybe they just can't enjoy something that is not a big blockbuster budget mega action movie.
I enjoyed the entire movie. I thought the story, acting, set were all good and kept me watching and thinking the entire time. Never once did I think it was boring or wish that it would hurry up already. I thought both main characters were very good and I was never sure who I really wanted to root for.
There were only a few places where I thought things wouldn't have gone the way they did them but maybe that is just me.
Yes, I would definitely recommend this movie if you like to think and feel rather than just be entertained.
